Watts Labor Community
Action Committee

Under the leadership of President and CEO Timothy Watkins Sr., WLCAC launched the Better Watts Initiative in 2016 with partners Black Community Health Task Force, Physicians for Social Responsibility LA, LA Right to Housing Collective, and California State University Dominguez Hills. The BWI is a collaborative of community members and groups organized for environmental justice in Watts.

Our first Town Hall meeting was held on January 31, 2016, to introduce community members to the issues of lack of sufficient clean air, land, and water. Subsequent Town Halls provided an update of progress around soil testing at the Jordan Downs Housing Project, discussed the lack of clean water in local households that border Central Avenue and the railroads right of way, reviewed equity and pollution issues, and introduced local graduate student activists.
